The rich history of Brunswick County contributes to the cultural diversity of the
community. The County has complied an inventory of historic resources including significant
architectural features. Protection and promotion, where appropriate, of these resources
enhances the cultural experience of residents and visitors in the community.
Developers, project managers, design professionals and others should consult the inventory
of Historic Resources available on the Brunswick County Geographic Information System
in conjunction with project planning. Planning staff will include review of the Historic
Resources inventory in the review of projects two acres or more in size. Best efforts
should be utilized to protect and promote the presence of Historic Resources in the
design of site development plans. The Planning Director is authorized to make reasonable
adjustments to applicable requirements such as setbacks, buffers, open space, landscaping,
etc. in the review and approval of project plans that successfully incorporate historic
resources into project design.
