§ 1-9-421. Unsafe, defected buildings or systems.

  • All buildings or service systems, which are unsanitary, constitute a fire hazard, or constitute a hazard to safety or health, bad conditions of walls, overload floors, defective construction, decay, unsafe wiring or heating system, inadequate means of egress are considered unsafe. All such unsafe building or service systems shall be abated by repair and rehabilitation or by demolition in accordance with the provisions of the technical codes.

    (1)

    Summary abatement. Where conditions exist that are deemed hazardous to life and property, the fire marshal or his designee is authorized to abate summarily such hazardous conditions that are in violation of this code.

    (2)

    Abatement. The owner, operator or occupant of a building or premises deemed unsafe by the code official shall abate or cause to be abated or corrected such unsafe conditions either by repair, rehabilitation, demolition or other approved corrective action.
